NAVIGATION LICENSE ONLY 6 HOURS
Both the sailing and powerboat federations and the nautical recreational schools may issue licenses for the government of class C nautical jet-skis and recreational boats up to 6 meters in length and a suitable motor power according to their manufacturer, which will enable the owners for daytime navigation provided that they do not move more than 2 nautical miles in any direction from a port, marina or place of shelter.
To get the license:
- Two hours of theory will be given during which an introduction to the practical contents will be made. Also, knowledge about limitations on navigation in non-marked, marked beaches and their access channels will be taught. Regulations regarding maritime traffic and inland navigation in ports. Side marks of region A. How to govern the boat to avoid balances and nods and importance of not crossing the sea. Rules 4 to 8, 11 to 19 and 37 (including Annex IV) of the International Regulations for Preventing Approaches.

- This theoretical training can be given in a classroom or in the practice boat itself.
- The practices for obtaining the navigation license will have a duration of 4 hours in which the following training will be given:
- Knowledge and handling of safety material, review of critical points of the boat and pre-departure checks at sea.
- Identification of the elements of the propulsion system. Starting the engine and checking the operation.
- Handling of basic cables and knots.
- Maneuvering in the dock, berthing and unmanaging. Safety speed.
- Mooring maneuver and anchor steering. Precautions with swimmers and divers.
- Safety maneuvers.
TITLE OF RECREATIONAL VESSEL’S SKIPPER (PER)
With the title of Recreational Vessel’s Skipper (PER) you can control motor boats up to 15 meters in length, which allows you to navigate in the area between the coast and a line parallel to it, drawn 12 miles from it, It allows navigation between islands within the Balearic and Canary archipelago, as well as nautical motorcycles, within the specific navigation limits applicable to them, according to their technical characteristics.
To get the PER you need:
- Be 18 years old.
- Approve the corresponding theoretical examination.
- Perform safety and navigation practices.
- Submit a report of psychophysical aptitude according to chapter IV of Royal Decree 875/2014.
- Perform the short-range radio-operator course.
TITLE OF BASIC NAVIGATION SKIPPER (PNB)
With the title of Basic Navigation Skipper you will be able to govern motor pleasure boats, up to 8 meters in length, provided that the boat does not move more than 5 miles in any direction from a port, marina or place of shelter, as well as nautical jet-skis, within the specific navigation limits applicable to them, according to their technical characteristics.
To get the PNB you need:
- Be 18 years of age, or 16 years with parental or guardian consent.
- Approve the corresponding theoretical examination.
- Perform safety and navigation practices.
- Submit a report of psychophysical aptitude according to chapter IV of Royal Decree 875/2014.
- Conduct radio regulatory practices, which may not be less than 2 hours, to be conducted on land, in an approved simulator of a school.
The nautical recreation certifications do not have professional character and they enable exclusively for the government of this type of boats, being unable to carry out activities of transport of load or passengers after receiving a payment, nor non-sport fishing. Professionals may enjoy the privileges conferred by their professional certification on recreational boats.
The theoretical examination programs and the content of the practices are determined in the Annexes of Royal Decree 875/2014, of October 10, which regulates the nautical degrees for the government of recreational boats. Once the examination and conditions for obtaining each degree have been obtained, a board in which the theoretical examination (General Directorate of the Merchant Marine or Autonomous Community) has passed a certificate proving possession of the degree.
The cards have a period of validity of 10 years, after which they can be renewed with the contribution of a new medical certificate. Notwithstanding the foregoing, persons over the age of 70 must renew the title every 5 years.
