How it works

The banana and the donut are towed along the surface behind the boat. The difference is the position: on the banana you sit astride in a line; on the donut you sit or lie down, and it spins.

It is booked by the group, not per person, so it works out very cheap between several people. The banana takes four to six; the donut, one or two.

Everyone ends up in the water, and that is the point. You need to be able to stay afloat with the life jacket on, which is compulsory.

How should you hold on?

Both hands on the handles, your body pressed against the float and your legs gripping the sides, like riding a horse. Sitting up straight and holding on with your arms alone is a guarantee of ending up in the water on the first turn.

And one signal worth agreeing before you set off: thumb up for the driver to speed up, thumb down to ease off. From the banana you cannot hear a word of what is shouted, so your hands are the only language that works.

From what age can you go on?

It is an activity that puts you in the water and you need to be able to stay afloat with a life jacket on, so the youngest always go with a responsible adult beside them and each case is looked at when you book.

The life jacket is compulsory and not up for discussion for anybody, including adults who swim well. Falling in is part of the plan: it is not a question of whether you will come off, but when, and the jacket is what turns that into a laugh rather than a fright.

Banana or donut?

The banana is for the group. Four or six of you in a line, one goes and drags the rest with them, and it is the one that works best on a stag or hen do, or with a group all after the same thing.

The donut is more individual and more brutal: you sit or lie down and it spins, so it makes you dizzier and throws you off sooner. If the group is two or three and after adrenaline, donut. If there are six of them and they want to laugh together, banana.

How long is a run?

The run is short and intense: a few minutes under tow with several turns, which is when the group comes off. Then the boat picks everyone up and, depending on what was booked, you go again or head back to the shore.

It sounds like little written down, but in the water it feels longer. Climbing on, holding on, surviving two turns and ending up floating in fits of laughter takes up more time than the clock says, and hardly anybody asks for a third run with the same enthusiasm as the first.

What should you wear?

Swimming shorts that hold on properly, and that advice is meant seriously: in the fall the water hits hard and loose shorts move. A rash vest if your skin is sensitive, because the rub against the float at that speed leaves marks.

Sunglasses and hats, on land. Anything not attached to your body is lost, and the seabed under the banana run must be full of sunglasses. The same goes for earrings, watches and bracelets: leave them with the towels.

How many people do you need?

The banana is booked by the group, so there is a minimum for the trip to make sense and a maximum per float. Four people already works well; six is better still, because the chain reaction of everyone falling in is half the fun.

The donut takes one or two people, so it suits small groups who would not fill a banana. If there are two of you, the donut is the answer; if there are five or six, the banana works out far cheaper each.

Can it be combined with another activity?

That is what works best, because the banana is short and leaves you wanting more. The usual thing is to run it together with parasailing or a jet ski slot and build a full afternoon without leaving the same beach.

For a mixed group it is also the way for everyone to choose. Those after adrenaline get on the donut, those who do not want to get wet fly on the parasail, and everybody meets up in the boat between turns.

Frequently asked questions

If it is not here, call us: two minutes on the phone and it is sorted.

What is the difference between the banana and the donut?

The position. On the banana you sit astride in a line, four to six of you; on the donut you sit or lie down, one or two, and it spins.

Is it booked per person?

No, by the group. That is why it works out so cheap between several people: it is the most economical thing on this site.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Enough to stay afloat with the life jacket on, which is compulsory. Because everyone comes off: that is the whole point.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes, accompanied. You can ask the skipper to take it gently; not every ride has to end in the water.
